Lani & Nick — A Relaxed Dunes at Palm Beach Wedding

BY

Some weddings feel calm from the very first moment — and that’s exactly what couples searching for a Dunes Palm Beach wedding photographer with a calm, relaxed vibe hope to find.

Lani and Nick’s wedding was one of those days.

Held at Dunes at Palm Beach on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, their celebration was unhurried, joyful, deeply emotional, and completely centred on connection. Nothing felt forced. Nothing felt rushed. It was the kind of wedding where everyone — couple, guests, and vendors alike — could simply settle into the day and enjoy it as it unfolded.

They’re both doctors — Nick originally from the US, Lani from Sydney — and met through work. Thoughtful, generous, warm people who clearly adore one another. The kind of couple whose love doesn’t need to be loud to be felt. It’s steady, affectionate, and unmistakably real.

Palm Beach felt like the perfect choice. Sydney-based but with Nick’s family flying in from America, they wanted somewhere that felt special without being showy — relaxed, beautiful, and very Sydney. Dunes delivered that effortlessly.

A Calm, Joyful Wedding Day by the Sea

The overall feeling of the day was exactly what so many couples search for when they’re looking for wedding photographers in Sydney with a calm, relaxed vibe.

Nothing felt rushed. Nothing felt forced.

Lani, a nurse through and through in the very best sense — warm, generous, quietly confident — was completely at ease in front of the camera. Nick, more reserved at first, softened instantly around her. The way they looked at each other was full of laughter, reassurance, and real love. It was palpable.

They chose to do a first look, giving them space to connect privately before the ceremony and then be fully present with their guests afterwards. That time together — unobserved, emotional, grounding — set the tone for everything that followed.

Ceremony Moments & Family Connections

The ceremony took place on the grass just north of Dunes, framed by incredible florals from White House Flowers. Late September meant softer light and a 4:30pm ceremony — not yet daylight savings — with cloud cover providing relief before the sun broke through at just the right moment.

There were quiet, meaningful family moments everywhere you looked.

One of my favourites happened during getting ready: Lani’s parents standing together as her mum helped her dad with his bow tie. They shared stories about the pearls Lani would be wearing — pearls passed down through generations, worn by her mum and grandmother on their wedding days. Small details, huge meaning.

Dunes at Palm Beach — Simple Elegance, Beautiful Light

There’s a reason Dunes works so well for couples who want things to feel effortless.

The venue is protected by trees, which keeps the light soft as the sun sets to the west. The courtyard flows beautifully for drinks, and having everything in one place makes the day feel easy — for couples, guests, and vendors alike.

As golden hour arrived, we slipped down to the beach for a quiet moment together. Bare feet in the sand, soft light, just the two of them. Lani completely in her element. Nick relaxed and playful. The kind of photos that don’t need direction — they just need space.

A Dance Floor Full of Energy (and Americans)

If the day was calm and grounded, the reception was pure joy.

The dance floor came alive quickly — especially once Nick’s family got involved. The Americans were carving it up. Speeches were hilarious (Nick’s brothers recounting his early days as a new doctor in Australia — including his very first prostate exam — had everyone in stitches).

Nick wore a classic MJ Bale tux with Dior shoes… and pink dinosaur socks from Lani. Lani wore a Maelle Bride gown with the most incredible hooded lace veil — timeless, striking, completely her.

Black tie. Colourful florals. High energy. So much laughter.

Photographing a Wedding Like This

Lani and Nick were exactly the kind of couple who say afterwards, “we forgot you were there — and it was actually fun.”

We’d only met over video chat before the wedding day, but trust was instant. They wanted to stay present, spend time with their guests, and keep things unfussy — and that’s where my approach fits best.

As a Sydney wedding photographer, especially for couples planning relaxed celebrations on the Northern Beaches, this is always the goal:
get what you need, then get you back to the people you love.

A Few Words from Lani

“Scott is unreal!!! I wish I could do more than 5 stars! He made me feel so comfortable in front of a camera and captured all the joy of our wedding day. The photos are beautiful, timeless, and full of emotion. We will be forever thankful.”

And later:

“You have got me crying again!! These are the most incredible pictures… they are so magical. It wouldn’t have been anywhere near as special without you.”
