Why This Matters

BY

I’ve never really talked about this publicly, but one of my unexpected flexes is connecting with the mums on the wedding day. Many photographers will say beware of the mums, but not me. I love a mum chat.

MOBs, MOGs, Grandmas, aunties, you name it. There are a lot of big emotions for the mums so I always take time to have a chat with them and make sure I capture their best side.

I let them know I’m in their corner and they can shout out to me for a photo at any stage throughout the day.

I always just thought you can never go wrong getting on the mums good side, but this email from a groom taught me there is so much more. Not just for the mums, but all the important people at your wedding.

A past groom reached out to me a couple of weeks ago. He got married last year and he said that his mum’s health took a sudden turn after the wedding and she passed away.

He went on to say that there was a photo I took of her on the wedding day that she loved. She usually hated any photo that’s ever been taken of her, but for some reason she absolutely loved the one I took. In her last days in the hospital, she even told them that’s the photo she wanted on the cover of her funeral booklet, and it’s now printed and framed at home too.

The groom just wanted to let me know how much it meant, and after reading it, I couldn’t stop crying. It reminded me why these moments matter so much.

p.s. I like a good dad chat too
